Ethically Handmade: All hope&plum ring slings are ethically handmade by our team of independent, skilled seamstresses in Minnesota. As a small business focused on creating beautiful, durable goods, it’s important to us that the items we offer our customers are not mass produced. We pay our small team of work-from-home moms fair wages and respect their skills and dedication to their craft. When you buy a ring sling from our shop, you can have confidence that your item is carefully and thoughtfully made with attention to detail and quality.
Eco-Friendly Production: Each of our pieces are designed and handmade by our team using soft, eco-friendly materials which include high-quality fabrics made from natural fibers like linen, cotton and hemp. We love working with natural fibers because they offer fabrics that are beautiful, sustainable, and durable. Not only do we work with eco-friendly materials, but we follow a no-waste production process where we reuse our excess fabric in other pieces such as bonnets, minis and scrap packs. We also collaborate with other makers who use our fabric remnants to make their own products! Having our entire production and shipping process in the Minneapolis area also helps reduce our carbon footprint and allows for us to build our business within a community!
Social Responsibility: Our corporate initiatives don’t stop with ethical and eco-friendly production; we strive to incorporate practices into our business that are socially conscious and that help bring the benefits of babywearing to all caregivers. hope&plum provides monetary donations to various social causes and nonprofits, and donates ring slings to local doulas, babywearing educators, and other nonprofit organizations that work with underserved communities. hope&plum also employs a diverse group of humans and, together, our team actively seeks out opportunities to work with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and people who are living with disabilities, via our social media platforms. Our team strives to keep an open and honest dialogue, while continuing to self-educate on different communities and social justice issues. We are always open to constructive criticism and acknowledge that the path to true allyship is a lifelong one.
Community: Our community is one of the most valued aspects of our brand. We started hope&plum to offer designs that are modern, stylish, size-inclusive, and -most importantly- to create a diverse and welcoming environment where caregivers of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds can come together while exploring the incredible benefits of babywearing. Our team is made up of a diverse group of people who combine their different cultures, lived experiences, and babywearing knowledge to best serve our community. We interact, daily, with our customers on our social media platforms; including our Facebook Community Page, where parents can seek help for anything from ring sling fit to where they can find the best butt cream! We look forward to getting to know people better through these interactions, and it is one of the things that makes hope&plum unique!
About Our Founders:
hope&plum was established in 2018 by co-founders Skye and Mallory. They met one another through an online group of women, while trying to conceive their children. They had an instant connection, and have shared a close relationship through the struggles of trying to get pregnant, the joys and difficulties of pregnancy, and navigating first time parenthood. Mallory introduced Skye to babywearing, and ring slings quickly became their favorite way to carry their children. After struggling to find a ring sling company that fit their beliefs and aesthetics, the two women joined forces to start their own company and hope&plum was born!
Mallory is a mother of two, Selah Plum and Shepherd Keane. She lives in Minnesota with her parents, husband and children. hope&plum's entire production is managed by Mallory from start to finish. Not only does she handle production, but she is a babywearing educator and helps our customers get the perfect fit with their ring slings! When she isn't shipping orders or helping customers with making babywearing more comfortable, you'll find her exploring new places, traipsing the zoo, or enjoying a local brewery.
Skye is a mother of three, Eleanor Hope, Madelynn Mae and Kieran Rhys. She works as an attorney in the Washington, DC area and manages the logistical side of hope&plum, at night (and early mornings). hope&plum has given her an opportunity to pursue her entrepreneurial spirit, while also feeding her passion for babywearing. Babywearing is close to her heart as her first daughter, Eleanor Hope, was in the NICU for several weeks and Skye was unable to hold her until days after she was born. Babywearing gave Skye and Eleanor the opportunity to develop the bond that they originally missed out on and it has been an integral part of Skye's journey through motherhood ever since. Like Mallory, when she isn’t working, you can find her out and about exploring all the Maryland/DC area has to offer (including its breweries and wineries)!
