How to Choose the Best Ring Sling Fabric
When it comes to ring slings, the fabric you choose can make a big difference in comfort, breathability, and overall feel! Here at hope&plum, we offer two different ring sling fabric options: linen/cotton and hemp/cotton blends. In this post, we'll discuss the differences between these two options to help you decide which fabric is right for you!
🌱 Properties of Linen Fibers
Linen is a natural fiber used for centuries to make textiles. It comes from the flax plant and is known for its strength, durability, and ability to absorb moisture. Linen fabric is also highly breathable, which makes it a great choice for warmer weather!
Linen fibers are long and strong, which makes them ideal for products that require strength and durability, such as baby carriers. Linen fabric is also naturally antibacterial, which helps to keep it fresh and clean even after prolonged use. Like hemp, linen is also an eco-friendly fiber. Flax plants require less water and fewer pesticides than other crops, making linen a more sustainable choice. Linen fabric is also biodegradable and can be recycled or repurposed at the end of its life!
Our Linen/Cotton Ring Slings
Our linen/cotton fabric blends 52% linen and 48% cotton fibers. The combination of these two fibers creates a fabric that is both breathable and durable. When making our ring slings, we use a single layer of fabric, making it our most light and breathable ring sling!
Our linen/cotton fabric is ideal for warmer weather, as it allows air to circulate around your baby, keeping them cool and comfortable.
“I bought a linen and cotton blend and I couldn’t be more thrilled! It is by far the comfiest ring sling I’ve ever used. It’s incredibly supportive for my 27lb toddler and sooo cushy to wear! Amazingly, it doesn’t get hot even though I live somewhere warm.”
🌱 Properties of Hemp Fibers
Hemp is a natural fiber from the hemp plant, a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species. It has been used for centuries to make various textiles, including rope, paper, and clothing.
Hemp fibers are known for their strength, durability, and natural antibacterial properties. They are also highly absorbent, which makes them an excellent choice for products that require moisture-wicking, such as baby carriers. 😉 Hemp fabric is naturally resistant to UV light, mold, and mildew, which makes it an excellent choice for outdoor or damp environments (or the bottom of the hamper you forgot it in when your kiddo got it all wet).
In addition to its functional properties, hemp is also eco-friendly! 🌍 It is a highly sustainable crop, requiring less water and fewer pesticides than many other crops. It also grows quickly and can be harvested several times per year. Also, hemp fabric is biodegradable, naturally breaking down over time without harming the environment! Pretty impressive, huh?
Our Hemp/Cotton Ring Slings
Our hemp/cotton blend fabric is a blend of 45% hemp and 55% cotton. The combination of these two fibers creates a fabric that is incredibly strong and durable yet still soft and comfortable even for newborns. Our hemp/cotton ring slings also use two layers of fabric instead of one, making them even more supportive!
Our hemp/cotton blend fabric is ideal for heavier babies or for longer periods of wearing, as it provides excellent support and stability.
“The hemp blend was so soft right from the very first time I used it. It was so comfortable for me and my baby. He snuggled right in. It was easier to thread, and to get the right fit than other ring slings I had tried from other companies!”
Both our ring sling fabric blends have unique benefits, and the choice ultimately comes down to personal preference! If you live in a warmer climate, linen/cotton might be the right choice. A hemp/cotton blend might be the way to go if you need an incredibly strong and supportive fabric for a larger baby and/or toddler. No matter which fabric you choose, you can feel confident that you're getting a high-quality, comfortable, and safe baby carrier from hope&plum!
