hope&plum celebrates Earth Day with sustainable scrap bundles
Sustainable Scrap Bundles: Creative Community Craft Ideas
At hope&plum, April is more than just the first full month of Spring. Sure we’re looking forward to nature’s renewal: buds on the trees, birds singing in the morning, and the whole world greening up. But the nature’s big comeback and the celebration of Earth Day at the end of the month remind us to focus on one of our values: sustainability. We know that our natural resources are valuable and we do what we can to preserve them. One way we live the “waste not, want not” mentality is by collecting our fabric scraps and bundling them up for you! This month, we asked our creative community what they do with their scrap bundles and what scraps they’re hoping for in the future.

For the Kids
It’s no surprise that many of our hope&plum community members use their scrap bundles to craft beautiful bespoke items for their children.
Jenny Tafur-Ruth: I can't take credit for the work... I sent the sunflower scraps off to be turned into a dress and sunhat for my daughter... A lot of trading scraps happened to get this much lol and the hat is lined with snapdragon.

Lorrin Ashley: Patching kid pants, usually at the knees from play!
Lauren Ashley: I am hoping to get my first scrap bundle. I plan on making stuffies and doll clothes for my girls and a quilt out of scraps of carriers we have used. Hoping for Cosmos, fete, village. Even some of the new prints especially ville and some other retired like citron, zinnia, sprout, pansy would be cool too!
For Accessorizing
Whether it’s for them, their kids, or their stuffed penguins, many other community members use their scraps to make cute accessories.
Alyssa Woodhouse: I made this darling little bonnet with the largest scraps I got in the bundle! The rest are too small to make hats but plenty big enough for hair accessories, doll clothes, coin pouches, scrappy quilt blocks & more. I need to get back in the sewing room todayyyyy! (If my little one will chill on my back in the Lark ;))
For Carrying All the Stuff
Now where do you put all that adorable kid stuff and stylish accessories? Bags, of course!
Danae Theimer: Okay okay. I got this! I make patchwork bags, bows, hats, sling pouches, card wallets, a quilt, apron, scrunchies, working on a patchwork Kindle sleeve and fannies. Mmm. Hood.
Scrap & Craft Wishlist
Even with all the projects above, our community members are still dreaming of future scrap bundles and project ideas for the next time we release scraps.
Erin Annita Pratt: I’m collecting scraps that match the carriers we have. I plan to make a pillow. With anything leftover I’ll make a quilt.
Michele Snyder: Would love to finally get a scrap bundle! Would love to get retired prints, herringbones, all the purples, and ones of the carriers I have (Alice, Savannah, Sierra, and Huckleberry)...Meadow, Citron and Argillite are definitely scraps I would love to get... I want to get back to making patchwork quilts!
Saralyn Riddell: Anything patchwork! As for scraps the top of my wishlist would be green whimsy (a dream I know), whimsy, frolic, sprout, fete, and village.
Bec Lee: …by day dreaming about sewing skills I don't have with my imaginary scrap bundle I also do not have 😂😭😭
Cassandra Emilie: I would make bonnets! We live in bonnets here.
Breonna Jensen: I hope to snag my first bundle in the next drop! I would make scrunchies, headbands, quilts, clothing, pillows, or teddy bears!
Meagan Foster: I’m going to have a sling bag made and use my blossom scrap on the interior
Samantha Johnson: I’m hoping to have my MIL teach me how to sew those little fabric Easter eggs... My son is too small for Easter this year but I’m sure he will enjoy hunting for “eggs” next year.
Morgan Bauer-Descourouez: I would love to make little toys for my girl, stuffed balls, tag blankets, patchwork stuffies 🤎
Katie Ann: I want to make my daughter American girl doll clothing
Paige Oppenhuizen: I’d like to make a baby quilt or some baby shortalls or sun hat!
